Job summary

Wiltshire Police is seeking a Lead Infrastructure Engineer (Networks) to shape and deliver secure connectivity across on-premise, cloud and hybrid environments, enabling officers and staff to access critical digital services.

You will mentor engineers, drive incident response, and oversee supplier-delivered services while advancing automation and cloud-aware networking practices in a modern DDaT transformation.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computing, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA or equivalent certification.
  • Experience designing, implementing and supporting enterprise network services.
  • Strong expertise across LAN, WAN, routing, switching, wireless and firewall technologies.
  • Experience delivering secure, resilient network infrastructure for critical services.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development in DDaT, cloud and networking.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, delivery and operation of enterprise network services across on-premise, cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Provide technical leadership for LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, firewall, routing and connectivity platforms.
  • Ensure network services are secure, resilient, supportable and aligned to architectural and security standards.
  • Lead the transition of new and changed network services into live operation, ensuring readiness and service acceptance.
  • Monitor, optimise and continually improve network performance, availability and reliability.
  • Investigate complex incidents and problems, driving root cause analysis and long-term service improvements.
  • Provide technical oversight of supplier-delivered services and network technology partners.
  • Mentor and develop network engineers while championing modern, automation-enabled and cloud-aware networking practices.

About the role

As Lead Infrastructure Engineer (Networks), you will provide technical leadership for the network services that enable modern policing.You'llshape,deliverand continuously improve secure,resilientand high-performing connectivity acrosson-premise, cloud and hybrid environments, ensuring officers and staff can access critical digital services wherever policing happens. Working with architects, securityspecialistsand engineering teams,you'llhelp drive innovation, strengthen operationalresilienceand support Wiltshire Police's digital transformation as we build the foundations of future-ready policing.


What you will be doing


  • Lead the design, delivery and operation of enterprise network services across on-premise, cloud and hybrid environments.

About you and your experience


  • Degree in Computing, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience in network engineering.

  • Industry-recognised networking certification such as Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA or equivalent.

  • Proven experience designing, implementing and supporting enterprise network services in large-scale live environments.

  • Strong technical expertise across LAN, WAN, routing, switching, wireless networking and firewall technologies.

  • Experience delivering secure, resilient and high-performing network infrastructure that supports critical operational services.

  • A commitment to continuous professional development and keeping current with modern DDaT, cloud and network engineering practices.
