Job summary

Network Rail is looking for a Section Planner, Administrator (Signalling) to develop detailed, fully resourced work plans and provide essential administrative support to the line manager and teams.

The role focuses on planning and optimising all agreed activities, creating Safe Systems of Work, and managing rosters and timesheets while maintaining high standards of confidentiality and safety-critical documentation.

Qualifications

  • Plan and optimise all agreed work activities for the section.
  • Maintain accurate systems, databases and records for reporting.
  • Produce Safe System of Work plans and access/possession requests.
  • Manage rosters and timesheets and support office admin tasks.
  • Represent Section Managers at planning meetings and coordinate with teams.
  • Demonstrate good organisation, confidentiality and safety awareness.
  • Proficient use of IT systems and relevant rail/administrative tools.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and within strict processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed, fully resourced work plans for approval.
  • Provide administrative support to the line manager and team.
  • Maintain filing systems and keep records for safety-critical docs.
  • Support Assessment in The Line process and weekly planning meetings.
  • Set up efficient filing and confidential documentation practices.

Scotland's Railway is part of this large family and it covers a large geographical area from the Borders to Thurso at the far tip of the North East of Scotland, accounting for almost 20 per cent of the UK rail network. About the role

This is a Full-Time/ Permanentposition.

The Section Planner, Administrator undertakes the development of detailed, fully resourced and optimised work plans for approval. They also provide an accurate and effective administrative support to the line manager and their team.

The role is responsible for planning and optimising all agreed work activities within the section, ensuring schedules are efficient and deliverable. This includes producing Safe Systems of Work, submitting green zone access and isolation requests, developing draft quarterly plans, and managing weekly Plan¿Do¿Review meetings. The post holder will also represent Section Managers at planning and coordination meetings, supporting effective communication and delivery across teams.

In addition, the role provides comprehensive administrative and record¿keeping support. Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate systems, databases, infrastructure maintenance records, rosters and timesheets, as well as supporting the Assessment in the Line process. The post holder will set up and maintain efficient filing systems, with particular attention to confidentiality and safety¿critical documentation, and carry out general office administration duties to support the Section Manager effectively.

Key Accountabilities

  • Plan and optimise all agreed work activities for the section.
  • Accurately update systems, databases and records as required.
  • Produce Safe System of Work plans.
  • Submit green zone access and isolation requests.
  • Manage weekly Plan-Do-Review meetings.
  • Represent Section Managers at planning meetings.
  • Collate and maintain infrastructure maintenance records.
  • Administration of rosters and timesheets.
  • Support the administration of the Assessment in The Line process.
  • Set up and maintain efficient filing systems for the Section(s) paying particular attention to confidentiality where necessary and also those documents deemed to be safety critical.
  • Undertake general office administration duties for the Section Manager using a range of knowledge and skills to provide effective support.
