Job summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Section Engineer for the NZT project in Redcar and Cleveland. You will contribute to the delivery of complex civil packages on a landmark decarbonisation initiative.

Responsibilities include setting out, calibration checks, and creating control plans, with a focus on safety, quality, and programme delivery, collaborating with subcontractors and design teams.

Qualifications

• HND in civil engineering at minimum; degree preferred.
• CSCS card required.
• SMSTS preferred; SSSTS at minimum.
• Prepare and review RAMS, ITPs and other technical documentation.
• Extensive proven experience as a section or site engineer on large civil/highways projects.
• Strong knowledge of engineering computer systems e.g. AutoCAD, BIM; Microsoft suite.

• Carry out complex setting out.
• Provide primary setting out control and identify optimum installation locations.
• Carry out calibration checks on equipment.
• Produce Activity Control Plans and Risk Assessments.
• Maintain filing system of quality records and raise Non-Conformance Reports.
• Produce Method Statements and Risk Assessments; Temporary Works Briefs.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Section Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

What you’ll be doing

• Carry out complex setting out;
• Provision of ‘primary’ setting out control and recognise the optimum location for installation;
• Able to carry out calibration checks on equipment;
• Produces Activity Control Plans;
• Actively uses the Specification as a reference document;
• Maintains a comprehensive filing system of quality records;
• Identifies, raises and actions Non Conformance Reports;
• Produces Method Statements and Risk Assessments;
• Prepares and raises Temporary Works Briefs;
• Understands and uses the Observation tool for both areas of improvement and areas of excellence;
• Assists in the production of a weekly programme and measures progress against KPIs;
• Communicates weekly programme and targets to the workforce;
• Creates and maintains daily diary for upload to BIM 360;
• Collates weekly measure information and monitors wastage against budget allowances/KPIs;
• Carrys out a labour and plant reconciliation;
• Identifies items of additional work and raises the necessary notifications;
• Works to specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant subcontractors and suppliers.

Who we’re looking for

• HND in civil engineering at minimum; degree is preferred or proven experience as a civil engineer;
• CSCS card;
• SMSTS is preferred; SSSTS at minimum;
• CITB Temporary Works Supervisor is preferable;
• Prepare and review RAMS, ITPs and other technical documentation;
• Extensive, proven experience as being a section or site engineer on large, complex packages of work, specifically within major civil engineering and highways infrastructure projects (e.g., major road construction, earthworks, heavy civils);
• Strong knowledge of engineering computer systems e.g. AutoCAD, BIM;
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft suite;
• Good knowledge of programming and planning civil works;
• Good working knowledge of site engineering tools e.g. total stations etc.;
• Excellent communication skills for effective interface with site teams, subcontractors, clients, and designers;
• Experience managing sections of work and multiple site engineers.
