Job summary

Balfour Beatty is recruiting an Engineering Surveying Technician for the NZT project at Redcar site. You will support the Engineering Surveying Team across the construction process, handling control, data collection and deliverables with survey software.

Ideal candidates will have GNSS experience, CSCS, a full UK driving licence and a strong safety mindset, with the willingness to learn within a major infrastructure programme.

Qualifications

  • Essential: commitment and punctuality, strong communication and teamwork.
  • Familiarity with GNSS networks and survey equipment; full UK driving licence.
  • Keen to learn and develop within the Survey Team; prior surveying experience.
  • Proficient IT skills and a strong focus on health and safety; CSCS card.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in mentoring and training less experienced surveyors.
  • Plan and install control points for survey tasks.
  • Produce as-built drawings from survey data using survey software.
  • Maintain and secure survey equipment and consumables.
  • Carry out delegated survey activities with supervision; perform checks at stages.
  • Process field data and issue deliverables in agreed formats.
  • Provide daily site briefings to junior surveyors.
  • Identify hazards and ensure safe working practices.
  • Perform routine validations on survey equipment per standards.
  • Provide information from design deliverables to site engineers.

Balfour Beatty is seeking anEngineering Surveying Technician to contribute to theNet Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Role purpose

To assist the Engineering Surveying Team in supporting the survey requirements throughout the construction process. This role will involve different survey processes as required to support the site teams.

What you'll be doing
  • Assist in mentoring and training less experienced surveyors;
  • Assist in planning and installing control points;
  • Assist in producing as-built drawings from survey data using survey-specific software;
  • Assist in securely storing and maintaining survey equipment and consumables;
  • Carry out delegated survey activities as part of a team or with minimal supervision;
  • Carry out independent survey checks at key construction stages;
  • Collect survey field data, process it, and issue deliverables in agreed formats;
  • Create and cascade daily site briefings to less experienced surveyors;
  • Identify hazards, raise observation cards, and ensure safe working practices for self and team;
  • Perform routine checks and validations on survey equipment in line with company standards;
  • Perform supplementary site POWRs for own working activities;
  • Produce and maintain accurate site records;
  • Provide site engineers with information derived from design deliverables (schedules, digital models, drawings).
Who we’re looking for

The following experience/qualifications are essential: -

  • Commitment and punctuality;
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills;
  • Familiarity with the latest survey equipment, GNSS networks, and emerging technologies;
  • Full UK manual driving licence;
  • Keen to learn and develop within the Survey Team;
  • Previous experience and knowledge in surveying activities (e.g., control, monitoring, topographical surveys, setting out);
  • Proficient in IT applications;
  • Strong focus on Health & Safety;
  • Valid CSCS card.

The following experience/qualifications are desirable but not essential: -

  • CAA-recognised drone operator qualifications (GVC and/or A2 CofC);
  • Experience surveying on civil engineering projects;
  • Experience with survey-specific software (e.g., 3DR, N4CE, Infinity, SiteScan);
  • First Aid at Work qualification;
  • Membership of a relevant professional body and/or professional qualification, ideally RICS or CICES;
  • Site Supervisors' Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS).
