Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is recruiting an experienced Section Engineer for the NZT project on Teesside. You will lead engineering activities, ensuring safety, quality and timely delivery of civil works within a large-scale decarbonisation programme.

You will mentor Site Engineers, review drawings and specs, and coordinate with subcontractors and stakeholders to resolve technical issues. Cardinal emphasis on buildability and compliance at every stage.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • CSCS card is essential.
  • Experience leading site engineers on large civil projects.
  • SMSTS and Temporary Works experience would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across your designated work area from planning through to completion.
  • Manage engineering activities, ensuring safety, quality and contractual compliance.
  • Lead and mentor Site Engineers and support the wider delivery team.
  • Review drawings, specifications and technical information for buildability and compliance.
  • Coordinate setting-out activities and ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Produce and review RAMS, ITPs and other engineering documentation.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, designers and stakeholders to resolve technical issues.

About The Role

We are now looking for an experienced Section Engineer to join our team on the landmark Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project in Teesside. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role on one of the UK's flagship decarbonisation projects, supporting the delivery of major civil engineering works that will help transform the UK's energy infrastructure. Working alongside an experienced project team, you'll take ownership of engineering activities within your section, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities

As a Section Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across your designated work area, supporting the successful delivery of the project from planning through to completion. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing engineering activities across your allocated section of works.
  • Leading and mentoring Site Engineers and supporting the wider delivery team.
  • Ensuring works are carried out safely, in accordance with Balfour Beatty's Zero Harm principles.
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical information to ensure buildability and compliance.
  • Managing setting out activities and ensuring dimensional accuracy.
  • Producing and reviewing RAMS, ITPs and other engineering documentation.
  • Managing quality assurance processes and ensuring works meet contractual requirements.
  • Coordinating subcontractors, designers and stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
Who we're looking for
  • Previous experience as a Section Engineer on large civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • A degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong setting out and engineering management experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of quality assurance and construction methodologies.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • CSCS card (essential).
  • SMSTS and Temporary Works experience would be advantageous.
