Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Section Engineer to lead and control the engineering delivery of a defined section of works on a major UK civil project. You will supervise Site Engineers, assistants and subcontractors, ensuring set-out, inspections and records align with drawings, permits and program requirements.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a Section Engineer or site engineer role.
• Good understanding of civil engineering and site delivery.
• Ability to read drawings, specifications, permits and schedules.
• Experience with setting out, survey control and tolerances.
• Knowledge of RAMS, Permits to Dig, inspection and test plans.
• Ability to produce and manage records and progress updates.
• Coordinate site teams and subcontractors.
• Good communication and issue-raising skills.
• Willingness to work weekends/nights if required.
• Valid CSCS card and SMSTS or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering control for the allocated section, ensuring set-out and inspections.
• Guide Site Engineers on setting out and survey control.
• Ensure survey control data is accurate and complete.
• Identify clashes and constructability concerns early.
• Coordinate day-to-day site activities with supervisors and subcontractors.
• Ensure drawings, RAMS, permits and temporary works are in place before work.
• Support delivery across enabling works and various construction disciplines.
• Resolve site issues and escalate risks affecting safety, quality or schedule.
• Maintain quality records, photos and as-built data.
• Provide cost- and progress-related information to commercial teams.
