Job summary

Hethersett Academy, part of Inspiration Trust, invites applications for a Teaching Assistant in the SEND Room. The role is 34.5 hours per week, 39 teaching weeks, starting in October. Based at Hethersett Academy in Norwich, you will support pupils with SEND to access learning and develop independence.

Experience in secondary education is advantageous; NVQ2 Teaching Assistant is required or equivalent. Closing date 12noon 17th Sept 2026; interview 1st Oct 2026.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Teaching Assistance.
• Experience caring for children in a school setting.
• Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and confidentiality.
• Ability to evaluate learning needs.
• Ability to relate well to children and adults.
• Proficient ICT skills to support learning.
• First aid training or experience with medical needs.

Responsibilities

• Supporting pupils’ learning and development through structured activities, interventions and targeted support programmes.
• Working with individuals and groups of pupils, including those with SEND or English as an Additional Language (EAL), to help them access learning and achieve their potential.
• Monitoring pupil progress, recording achievements and providing feedback to teachers and the SEND team.
• Delivering agreed interventions focused on areas such as literacy, numeracy, speech and language, emotional literacy and social skills.
• Supporting positive behaviour through effective classroom management and the use of appropriate de-escalation strategies.
• Assisting teachers with classroom activities, resource preparation and the effective use of ICT and learning technologies.
• Supporting pupils during assessments, examinations, trips and other activities as required.
• Building positive relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues and external professionals to support pupil wellbeing and inclusion.
• Maintaining accurate records of support provided and contributing to SEND reviews and pupil progress discussions.
