Job summary

Higham Lane School is seeking a Teaching Assistant Level 2 to assist the SEND Coordinator and teaching staff. The role involves supporting pupils with additional needs inside and outside the classroom to access the full curriculum and make progress.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent knowledge and skills.
• GCSE English and Maths at A–C or equivalent.
• Experience as a teaching assistant, including with students who have autism, attachment difficulties, ADHD and severe cognition/learning needs.
• Good communication and listening skills, with ability to present information clearly to parents/external agencies.
• Knowledge in at least one curriculum area and ability to use ICT to support learning.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to curriculum planning, evaluation and implementation and assist in lesson delivery.
• Support individuals or groups during independent or group work, explaining tasks and reinforcing key concepts.
• Promote inclusion and positive interactions while supporting personal, social and emotional development.
• Create, update and review targets on pupil passports each term and share with staff.
• Monitor and report on progress, participate in assessments and attend annual reviews.
• Implement strategies to manage pupil behaviour and support during social times and trips.
• Provide general care and safety support, including personal and physical care tasks with training and risk assessment.
• Prepare teaching materials, differentiate worksheets and maintain records.
• Liaise with parents, carers, specialist teachers and other professionals.
