Job summary

Barchester is seeking a passionate Second Chef to work with fresh seasonal food and help deliver hotel/restaurant standards in our care settings. You will assist the Head Chef in creating nutritious menus and work with residents to tailor dishes while maintaining quality and cost controls.

We value warmth, reliability and a genuine interest in resident wellbeing; you will lead by example in a busy kitchen and help create a welcoming, safe environment across our homes.

Qualifications

• Personable and warm approach with genuine interest in resident wellbeing.
• Holder of City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent.
• Good understanding of nutrition.
• Experience with fresh seasonal food.
• Ability to create a warm and welcoming environment within the home.
• Confidence engaging with residents to create appetising and nutritious menus.
• Good understanding of HACCP.

Responsibilities

• Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.
• Assist Head Chef in menu development.
• Work with fresh produce to deliver high quality and wholesome dishes.
• Create a warm, efficient and fun environment.
• Work within budget.
• Complete regular audits.
• Manage stock control.
