Jackie Kerr Recruitment Ltd is supporting a growing engineering business seeking a Design and Applications Engineer in Cirencester, Gloucestershire. The role focuses on sealing and hydraulic applications from enquiry to design release, working with customers, suppliers, Sales and Engineering to deliver robust solutions.

Requirements include hands-on sealing experience, hydraulics knowledge, SolidWorks proficiency and GD&T expertise.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a Design Engineering or Applications Engineering role.
• Hands-on sealing experience across elastomeric, thermoplastic and composite materials.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics and fluid power applications.
• Experience with hydraulic cylinder sealing systems (Rod, Piston, Wiper, Buffer).
• Understanding of seal glands, dynamic/static sealing and seal selection.
• Proficient with SolidWorks and GD&T.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical contact for customers on sealing and hydraulic applications.
• Provide guidance on seal selection and material compatibility.
• Design and specify hydraulic sealing solutions (Rod, Piston, Wipers, etc.).
• Produce 3D/2D designs using SolidWorks with drawings, GD&T and tolerance analysis.
• Carry out sealing calculations (squeeze/stretch, groove fill, extrusion gaps).
• Lead failure analysis and root cause investigations with corrective actions.
• Collaborate with suppliers on manufacturing processes, tooling and pre-production builds.
• Prepare technical documentation (application notes, datasheets, validation reports).
• Visit customer and supplier sites as required.
