Job summary

Jackie Kerr Recruitment's client, a growing specialist engineering business, seeks an experienced Design and Applications Engineer focused on sealing and hydraulic solutions. You will own from enquiry to release, collaborating with customers, suppliers, Sales and Engineering to deliver robust designs.

Key tasks include creating 3D/2D designs in SolidWorks, selecting materials, performing sealing calculations, leading root cause investigations, and supporting quality processes such as PPAP and

Qualifications

• Experience in design or applications engineering with a focus on sealing and hydraulics.
• Knowledge of elastomeric, thermoplastic and composite sealing materials.
• Understanding of GD&T and tolerance analysis.

Responsibilities

• Act as a technical contact for customers on sealing and hydraulic applications.
• Provide guidance on seal selection, design and material compatibility.
• Design and specify hydraulic sealing solutions (Rod/Piston/Wiper/Buffer Seals).
• Produce 3D/2D designs in SolidWorks with drawings, GD&T and tolerances.
• Select materials including PTFE, PEEK, FKM, FFKM, HNBR, NBR, EPDM, polyurethane.
• Carry out sealing calculations (squeeze/stretch, groove fill, extrusion gaps).
• Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with suppliers on manufacturing processes and pre-production builds.
• Apply DfM and DfA across machining, moulding and finishing processes.
• Support PPAP, FAIRs, ISIRs, NCRs, FMEA, 5 Why and 8D.
• Produce application notes, datasheets and validation reports.
• Visit customer and supplier sites as required.
