Job summary

ESCO Maritime SMaP (UK) seeks a Scientist to join the Staffordshire-based Research Team to analyse and develop techniques for managing electromagnetic fields generated by vessels. The role collaborates with ESCO's engineering team to translate findings into practical implementations.

You will perform computational EM field modelling, corrosion and analytical modelling, and contribute to control theory, simulations and data analysis while meeting security vetting requirements.

Qualifications

  • Degree level in a scientific or mathematical discipline; physics or mathematics preferred.
  • Post-graduate degree or experience in physics/mathematics is desirable.
  • Computer literate with good programming skills; C++ beneficial.
  • Experience in EM modelling tools (Opera FEA, COMSOL) or MATLAB/Simulink is advantageous.
  • Strong written English and report writing skills; customer-facing confidence desirable.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Scientist to join ESCO Maritime SMaP (UK) based in Staffordshire Research team. Reporting to the Research Team Leader, the successful candidate will carry out a vital role in the analysis, computation and measurement of electromagnetic fields generated from vessels. The successful candidate will be undertaking studies to understand and develop techniques to manage these fields. The candidate will work closely with other team members developing technical solutions as well as working alongside ESCO's engineering team to realise practical implementation of them.

Key Responsibilties
  • Computational electromagnetic field modelling using Finite Element & Boundary Element Analysis.
  • Corrosion modelling using Finite Element & Boundary Element Analysis.
  • Analytical modelling/techniques of electromagnetic field propagation.
  • Control theory and simulation.
  • Numerical & Optimisation methods.
  • Trials preparation, attendance and data analysis.
Qualifications And Skills Required
  • Be educated to a minimum of degree level in a scientific or mathematical discipline. A physics or mathematics degree preferred.
  • A post-graduate degree or experience in a physics or mathematical environment is desirable.
  • Be computer literate with good programming skills. Experience in C++ would be beneficial.
  • Experience in two or more of the following would be advantageous: electromagnetic modelling, Opera FEA, COMSOL, Mathematica/MATLAB/Simulink
  • Have good written English and report writing skills.
  • Ideally have presentation skills and training skills and be confident in a customer facing role
  • Some travel is required which may include site work e.g. research or commissioning trials in the UK and worldwide.
