Talentmark is recruiting a Scientist – Protein Purification and Biochemistry to join a biotech start-up in Cambridge. The position is permanent with Mon-Fri daytime hours, based at the Cambridge site.

You will contribute to drug discovery by applying protein purification and biochemical characterization to support construct design, protein production and downstream analyses. Experience with AKTA systems and antibody-related workflows is advantageous.

Qualifikationen

• A minimum of a BSc Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with protein purification techniques (Protein A, affinity chromatography, SEC).
• Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting ÄKTA chromatography systems.
• Experience working with matrices such as cell lysates and human serum.
• Understanding of analytical techniques (SEC, SDS-PAGE, charge-based assays, mass spectrometry) applied to therapeutic proteins.
• Awareness of therapeutic antibody development considerations.

Aufgaben

• Independently plan, execute and troubleshoot protein purification workflows, including affinity chromatography, Protein A and size-exclusion chromatography.
• Coordinate recombinant protein expression and purification activities in-house and with CRO partners, ensuring material is suitable for downstream assays.
• Establish, optimise and transfer protein purification methods from external partners where required.
• Develop practical approaches to overcome protein production and purification challenges and proactively identify potential risks or blockers.
• Analyse and interpret purification and biochemical data to support project decisions and recommend next steps.
• Work with CROs and other external partners to support protein delivery, monitor progress and ensure agreed technical requirements are met.
• Support the evaluation of outsourcing partners where additional external capability is required.

The role will be based at their site in Cambridge and is a permanent role, with Mon-Fri day time working hours.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Scientist to join our team in Cambridge. Working with a dynamic group of drug discovery scientists, you will contribute to the therapeutic pipeline by applying expertise in protein purification and biochemistry. The successful candidate will support construct design, protein production, and biochemical characterization to help advance novel drug discovery programmes.
