Job summary

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Jarrow, invites applications for a Site Supervisor to maintain the school site and provide a welcoming, safe environment for pupils and staff. The role is full-time, 37 hours per week, year-round, with split shifts: Mon-Thu 6:30am–10:30am and 2:30pm–6:00pm; Fri 6:30am–10:30am and 2:45pm–5:45pm.

Key duties include maintenance, security of the site, stock control, handyperson tasks, and assisting with health and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Be a hands-on individual who is well organised.
• Have good communication skills.
• Have a practical knowledge of basic maintenance tasks.
• Have the ability to undertake moving and handling of physical objects.
• Be flexible in their approach and work well as part of the team.
• Have leadership skills.
• Have the ability to use own initiative.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring the school is well presented and maintained to a high standard and that health and safety is enshrined in all activity.
• Ensuring that buildings and the site are secure, including during out of school hours and take remedial action if required.
• Keeping buildings and grounds secure, including opening and locking, responding to alarms per procedures.
• Undertaking a range of handyperson duties as directed by the Head Teacher (e.g., painting, repairs, shelving).
• Monitoring consumables and stock and informing shortages.
• Carrying out general porterage duties and moving equipment within the school.
• Conducting regular health and safety checks of buildings, grounds, fixtures, and fittings.
• Caring for outside areas (snow clearing, salting entrances).
• Co-ordinating deliveries and assisting with moving to designated areas.
• Working with Estates Manager to meet health and safety requirements.
• Carrying out minor repairs as required.
