Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a Site Assistant for a Secondary School in London. 37 hours per week (shift pattern: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM / 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM alternating) with a salary of £24,000–£26,500 per annum, starting ASAP.

You will support site maintenance, security, and daily operations to create a safe, welcoming learning space for about 1,200 students and staff. The role requires practical DIY and maintenance skills, reliability, and the ability to handle shifts.

Qualifications

• Solid experience in general DIY, maintenance, or building trades.
• A punctual professional who can work independently and handle shift patterns.
• Ability to respond calmly and quickly to practical site issues or emergencies.
• Friendly communication skills to interact positively with teachers, pupils, and contractors.
• Willingness to undergo Enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Security: Act as a keyholder to open or lock school buildings, set alarms, and monitor site safety.
• Maintenance: Carry out routine DIY tasks, minor plumbing, painting, and basic carpentry repairs.
• Operations: Set up halls for assemblies, exams, and community events, and manage heavy lifting for incoming deliveries.
• Grounds Care: Keep walkways clear of litter and leaves, and perform emergency gritting during freezing winter weather.
• Health & Safety: Conduct regular testing on fire alarms and water systems, reporting any hazards immediately.
