Job summary

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools is seeking a Plant Engineer at Salem High School to oversee the building's maintenance, its equipment and grounds, and to coordinate maintenance staff and supervision with the building principal. The role includes ensuring proper operation of HVAC, lighting, and plumbing systems, and providing service for events and activities.

The Plant Engineer will supervise day and afternoon staff, participate in cleaning tasks when needed, and plan purchases of supplies.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work with administration and bargaining unit members.
• Past attendance and job performance record must be satisfactory to administration.
• Satisfactory completion of contractual training requirements.
• Educational training beyond high school.
• Three years supervisory experience.
• Three years custodial/maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for all building maintenance/custodial staff and the proper discharge of their assigned duties.
• Operate, care for and maintain the heating, ventilating, lighting and plumbing systems.
• Supervise care, maintenance and repairs of building, equipment and grounds.
• Schedule, train, supervise, and evaluate all day personnel, and the afternoon maintenance supervisor.
• Provide service for public meetings and in-school activities; represent the school administration.
• Assist teachers and principals as needed.
• Maintain 24-hour care and maintenance of the school plant.
• Recommend supplies and equipment for care and maintenance.
• Inspect and prepare the building daily before arrival of personnel and students.
• Ensure mechanical systems are operating properly.
• Schedule work for afternoon shift personnel.
• Meet with afternoon shift personnel to coordinate schedules.
• Maintain inventory and requisitions for maintenance supplies.
• Supervise unloading and distribution of deliveries.
• Participate in cleaning and maintenance when priorities allow.
• Perform other tasks as directed by supervisor.
