Job summary

Byron Wood Academy in Sheffield is seeking a dedicated Caretaker to maintain a safe and welcoming school environment. This full-time role (37 hours per week, 52 weeks) runs 7am–3pm Monday to Thursday and 7am–2:30pm Friday, under the guidance of the Operations Manager.

Qualifications

Experience in caretaking, site maintenance or facilities management.
Practical skills for basic repairs (plumbing, joinery, decorating).
Understanding of health, safety and security in public settings.
Proactive, independent problem-solver with good organisation.
Reliable, flexible and willing to maintain high standards.
Good communication with colleagues, contractors and visitors.
Willingness to obtain relevant licence and training to drive a school minibus.

Responsibilities

Maintain safety, cleanliness and presentation of school buildings and grounds.
Hold keyholder responsibilities, unlock/secure site and respond to security incidents.
Carry out general maintenance tasks and minor repairs.
Support compliance with fire safety, emergency lighting and Legionella procedures.
Keep external areas clean, safe and accessible in all weather.
Liaise with contractors and supervise site-based works.
