Job summary

Byron Wood Academy in Sheffield is seeking a dedicated Caretaker to maintain a safe and welcoming school environment. This full-time role (37 hours per week, 52 weeks) runs 7am–3pm Monday to Thursday and 7am–2:30pm Friday, under the guidance of the Operations Manager.

Qualifications

  • Experience in caretaking, site maintenance or facilities management.
  • Practical skills for basic repairs (plumbing, joinery, decorating).
  • Understanding of health, safety and security in public settings.
  • Proactive, independent problem-solver with good organisation.
  • Reliable, flexible and willing to maintain high standards.
  • Good communication with colleagues, contractors and visitors.
  • Willingness to obtain relevant licence and training to drive a school minibus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety, cleanliness and presentation of school buildings and grounds.
  • Hold keyholder responsibilities, unlock/secure site and respond to security incidents.
  • Carry out general maintenance tasks and minor repairs.
  • Support compliance with fire safety, emergency lighting and Legionella procedures.
  • Keep external areas clean, safe and accessible in all weather.
  • Liaise with contractors and supervise site-based works.
