Job summary

Barford Primary School in Birmingham is seeking a Building Services Manager to lead the management, maintenance and security of the school site. The role combines practical hands-on maintenance with oversight of compliance, contractors and site services.

This permanent, full-time position (term time plus 3 weeks) offers an opportunity to ensure a safe, welcoming environment where children can thrive and learn. You will work with school leaders on ongoing site development and improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience in premises, facilities, maintenance, or site management.
• Practical trade skills in carpentry, basic plumbing, decorating, and general repairs.
• Ability to identify issues and implement practical, cost-efficient solutions.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety, COSHH, risk assessments and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day running of the school site.
• Oversee maintenance, cleaning, security and facilities services.
• Coordinate contractors and building improvement projects.
• Manage health and safety compliance, including statutory inspections and record-keeping.
• Support sustainability and environmental initiatives across the site.
• Ensure the security of the premises, including keyholding responsibilities.
• Monitor and maintain school grounds to a high standard.
• Work with school leaders to support site development and improvement.
