Job summary

West Sussex County Council is hiring a School Crossing Patrol to safeguard children and pedestrians at a designated crossing. Based at Drayton Depot, you will be assigned to Midhurst C of E Primary School in Midhurst.

The role is permanent, term-time only, and part-time (4.58 hours per week) at £13.28 per hour. You will stand for extended periods, hold the traffic-stopping pole, and help children cross safely.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and carry out procedures for safely stopping traffic.
• Good oral communication skills to interact with children, colleagues and adults.
• Awareness of stopping times and weather effects on traffic.
• Remain calm when faced with drivers or pedestrians under pressure.
• Basic literacy and numeracy to follow written instructions and record information.
• Familiar with the Highway Code and its applications.
• Experience of working with children is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Safely stop traffic at designated crossing sites to assist pedestrians.
• Assist children and pedestrians in crossing the road safely.
• Stand for extended periods holding the crossing pole in all weather conditions.
