West Sussex County Council is seeking a crossing patrol to assist pedestrians at Turners Hill Primary in Crawley. The role involves stopping traffic safely, standing at the crossing for extended periods, and ensuring children reach their destination safely on their way to and from school.

The post requires calm, clear communication with children and adults, adherence to traffic procedures, and a basic level of literacy and numeracy.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and carry out the procedures for safely stopping traffic.
• Good oral communication with children and colleagues.
• Knowledge of car stopping times and weather effects on stopping.
• Remain calm when under pressure by drivers or pedestrians.
• Basic literacy and numeracy to follow written instructions and record information.
• Familiar with Highway Code and its applications.
• Experience working with children is desirable.

Responsabilités

• Stand for extended periods holding the 'lollipop' pole in all weather conditions to ensure safe passage of pedestrians.
• Stop cars to allow children and adults to cross safely at designated crossings.
