Job summary

West Sussex County Council is recruiting for a part-time School Crossing Patrol at Hop Oast Depot near Horsham. You will help children cross the road safely on their way to and from school, standing for extended periods and stopping traffic when required.

The role is term-time only with a 10-hour week and a pro-rata salary of £5,964 per year. Training and support are provided, and you will work within the Transport Provision Team.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and carry out procedures for safely stopping traffic.
• Good oral communication to interact with children, colleagues and adults.
• Good perception of stopping times, including adverse weather effects.
• Remain calm when faced with drivers or pedestrians under pressure.
• A basic level of literacy and numeracy to follow written instructions.
• Familiarity with Highway Code and its applications.
• Experience of working with children is desirable

Responsibilities

• Provide a valuable and reliable service at a designated Crossing Site.
• Assist pedestrians to cross the road safely on their way to/from school.
• Stand for extended periods and stop cars as required.
