West Sussex County Council is seeking a part-time School Crossing Patrol at a designated crossing near Buckingham Park Primary School in Shoreham. The role is 10 hours per week on a permanent term-time contract, with a base at Clapham Depot and assignment to the school site.

You will help children cross safely, stopping traffic as needed and adhering to school term dates. The role requires strong communication, good perception of stopping times, and the ability to work in varying weather

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and carry out the procedures for safely stopping traffic.
• Good oral communication skills to deal with children, colleagues and adults.
• Good perception and knowledge of car stopping times, especially in adverse weather.
• Ability to remain calm when under pressure from drivers or pedestrians.
• Basic literacy and numeracy to follow written instructions and record information.
• Familiarity with the relevant sections of the Highway Code and its applications.
• Experience of working with children and providing a service is desirable.

Responsabilités

• Safely stop traffic at a crossing to assist pedestrians, ensuring safe passage for children and adults.
• Stand for extended periods in all weather conditions while managing traffic flow.
