West Sussex County Council is recruiting a School Crossing Patrol for a part-time, term-time only role in Horsham. The base is Hop Oast Depot, with assignment to Leechpool Primary.

Salary is £13.28 per hour, pro rata, with a permanent term-time contract and weekend/holiday considerations as per school terms. The role requires standing for long periods, stopping traffic safely, and communicating effectively with children, parents and colleagues.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and carry out procedures for safely stopping traffic.
• Good oral communication to interact with children, colleagues and adults.
• Ability to judge stopping times and understand weather effects on traffic.
• Remain calm when challenged by drivers or pedestrians.
• Basic literacy and numeracy to follow instructions and record information.
• Familiar with Highway Code and its applications.
• Experience of working with children is desirable.

Responsabilités

• Provide a valuable and reliable service to children and pedestrians at a designated Crossing Site.
• Stand for extended periods, holding the lollipop pole in all weather, stopping cars as needed.
• Ensure safe passage of people to their destination.
