Responsibilities

• Open and secure school premises across multiple sites and perform lock-up duties.
• Carry out general maintenance, repairs and basic DIY tasks.
• Keep buildings and grounds safe, clean and well maintained.
• Carry out routine health and safety checks and report issues.
• Support site security and manage access to premises.
• Move furniture and assist with room setups as needed.
• Liaise with contractors and supervise maintenance work.
• Identify hazards and report necessary repairs promptly.
• Travel between six school sites as required.

About the Role

We are currently seeking a reliable, practical and hardworking School Caretaker to support a school operating across six sites in West Berkshire.

The sites are located across Newbury, Thatcham and Calcot, near Reading. The successful candidate must live within a reasonable travelling distance and be able to travel between sites as required.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced caretaker or facilities professional who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming school environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Opening and securing school premises, including lock-up duties.
• Carrying out general maintenance, repairs and basic DIY tasks.
• Ensuring school buildings and grounds are safe, clean and well maintained.
• Conducting routine health and safety checks and reporting any issues.
• Supporting site security and managing access to school premises.
• Moving furniture and assisting with room setups when required.
• Liaising with contractors and supporting maintenance work.
• Identifying hazards and ensuring any necessary repairs are reported promptly.
• Travelling between the six school sites as required.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a School Caretaker, Site Assistant, Facilities Assistant or in a similar role is desirable.
• Experience working within a school or educational setting would be advantageous.
• A valid Enhanced DBS check is required.
• Good practical maintenance and DIY skills.
• A strong understanding of site safety and security.
• Reliable, organised and able to work independently.
• Must be based within commuting distance of Newbury, Thatcham or Calcot.
• Must be flexible and able to travel between the different sites.

Pay and Working Hours

• Pay rate is negotiable, depending on your experience and suitability for the role.
• Working hours will be during school hours.
• Work will be based across six sites in West Berkshire, so flexibility and the ability to travel between locations are essential.
