Job summary

Croydon High School - GDST is seeking a proactive Caretaker to join the premises team on a 36-hour week, Monday to Friday, 12.00pm–8.00pm. The role covers site security, maintenance, event set-ups, porterage, deliveries, waste management and routine health and safety checks at the 20-acre campus.

You'll work across the school, supporting facilities including sports and swimming pool, helping run after-hours events, and learning from experienced colleagues.

• Experience in premises caretaking, ideally in an education setting.
• Good organisational and communication skills; ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain site security and assist with general maintenance and repairs.

• Manage waste and carry out routine health and safety checks.
• Support school sports facilities and swimming pool operations.
• Assist with after-school events and lettings to ensure smooth running.

The Role:

Croydon High School is looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Caretaker to join its friendly and experienced Premises team.

This is a varied, hands‑on role helping to ensure the school's 20-acre campus remains safe, secure, well maintained and welcoming for pupils, staff and visitors.

Working across the school, you will support a broad range of premises duties including site security, general maintenance and repairs, room and event set‑ups, porterage, deliveries, waste management and routine health and safety checks. You will also help maintain the school's sports facilities and swimming pool and support the smooth running of school events and lettings.

You will need practical handyperson/DIY skills, good organisational and communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of health and safety, security procedures and routine preventative maintenance is important, alongside a positive, flexible and professional approach. Previous premises caretaking experience, ideally within an education setting, is required.

You will be joining an established and supportive department where there are opportunities to learn from experienced colleagues. The school also offers regular opportunities for paid overtime to support its programme of after-school events and activities.
