Job summary

Forestry England seeks a Sandlings East Beat Work Supervisor based at the Tangham hub near Woodbridge, Suffolk. You will oversee forest operations across Rendlesham, Tunstall, and Dunwich Forests, ensuring the safe delivery of timber production, restocking and habitat management in line with UKFS/UKWAS/FISA standards.

Lead Beat Craftspeople and contractors, plan large-scale programmes, and manage outdoor work across seasons.

What you’ll do…

As a Beat Works Supervisor in Rendlesham, Tunstall, Dunwich Forest and also a wider Beat, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of forest operations that protect the forest, produce timber, establish restocking, maintain SSSI/SPA habitats for rare Sandlings fauna and flora, safeguard our unique heritage, and provide extensive public access.At Rendlesham, Tunstall and Dunwich Forest, we work at a landscape scale. The 5,500 hectare of forest is divided into three main blocks and also several smaller outlaying woodlands in the Lavenham area, contributing to the Districts timber production and a planting programme each year. The Sandlings and Lavenham Beat has a small team managed by a Forester. You will be the Work Supervisor in The Sandlings and Lavenham Beat, part of the East District operational delivery team, using your forestry knowledge and experience to support the Forester in planning and organising large-scale, wide-ranging beat programmes, including harvesting, restocking, vegetation management and hazardous tree work. These programmes are delivered by Beat Craftspeople and contractors; your understanding of operational forestry will ensure their work meets UKFS, UKWAS and FISA standards.Please see attached Job Description for more details.

Where you’ll work…

This post is based at the Tangham hub outstation near Woodbridge, Suffolk (IP12 3NF).You can expect to spend part of your time in the office, but you must also be prepared to work outdoors in all seasons and be able to walk across rough ground. There will be occasions where meetings and training events will take place off site, which may require overnight stays.
