Job summary

Forestry England in Bristol is seeking a Works Supervisor to support the beat forester in all aspects of forest management, including restocking and timber harvesting. You will coordinate contractors to deliver work safely and to high quality standards within agreed timeframes.

Based at Leigh Woods office, you will join a team protecting 38,500 ha of woods across the West England District, with competitive civil service benefits and a 37-hour week. This fixed-term appointment runs to 2029-03-31.

What you’ll do

You will support the beat forester in all aspects of forest management on the beat, this includes restocking and timber harvesting. You will be responsible for managing and coordinating contractors to complete works to a high health & safety and quality standard, ensuring targets are met within a given time frame. You should be able to work closely with a team to solve problems and manage challenges that may arise throughout the process. You will be self-motivated and be able to work on your own when required.

Where you’ll work

The West England Forest District team are custodians of 38,500 ha of the Nations Forests in the west and south-west of England. Our woods can be found from Shrewsbury in the north to the majestic veteran trees of Savernake Forest near Marlborough, and the conifer forests on Bodmin Moor, and ancient woodlands of the Glynn Valley in Cornwall. You will be based at Leigh Woods office, Abbots Leigh Road, Bristol, BS8 3QB.
