Job summary

Government Recruitment Service is seeking a Salmonella Technical Officer in Cardiff to support the APHA Salmonella strategy. The role involves audits, reports, and training across UK laboratories with travel to external sites including Weybridge. This fixed-term appointment ends on 31 March 2028.

The post will suit an experienced microbiologist, with duties spanning laboratory auditing, quality assurance, and collaboration with APHA One Health and DAL teams.

Responsibilities

• Audit laboratories and provide training and advisory services for APHA and DALs at multiple locations across the UK.
• Oversee the performance of Defra-approved Salmonella testing laboratories for the National Control Programme.
• Prepare reports and assist in the evaluation and approval of DAL status; liaise with UKAS and related teams.
