Job summary

The Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA) seeks an experienced Salmonella Technical Officer to support the Salmonella strategy. The post involves auditing, training and advisory duties across APHA and external labs, ensuring Defra-approved testing facilities meet UK standards. Travel to Weybridge and other sites is required.

You will provide expert appraisal, audits, reports and QA oversight within the NRL/DAL network and contribute to future QA developments.

Qualifications

• Experience auditing Defra/APHA processes across multiple sites.
• Ability to train and advise laboratories and staff.
• Strong liaison with UKAS, DALs and NRL teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide external and internal auditing and advisory services across UK locations.
• Oversee performance of Defra-approved Salmonella testing labs for NCP/CSPO/PHS.
• Prepare reports and training materials; conduct audits of laboratories.
• Maintain and develop ISO17025/ISO9001/ISO17043 expertise.
