Job summary

Government Recruitment Service is seeking a microbiologist to support the Salmonella strategy within APHA. The role includes auditing, QA oversight, and training across multiple UK locations, with travel to Weybridge and external sites.

The successful candidate will work with DA Ls and UKAS to ensure DAL approvals, perform audits, and contribute to quality assurance programs, including ISO17025/17043 compliance. This is a fixed-term position ending 31 March 2028.

Qualifications

• Experienced microbiologist supporting Salmonella strategy.
• Auditing and training across APHA/DAL sites.
• Liaising with UKAS, QA teams and external laboratories.

Responsibilities

• Provide external/internal auditing and advisory services for APHA and DALs at multiple locations across the UK.
• Plan and conduct auditing to monitor compliance with Defra and APHA procedures and standards.
• Oversee performance of Defra-approved Salmonella testing laboratories under CSPO and PHS tests under TARP.
• Deliver expert appraisal of applications for DAL status and conduct audits of laboratories.
