Job Purpose

As a Safety and Security Officer, you will work with colleagues and client staff to keep the shopping centre safe and create a welcoming environment for people to shop, enjoy a coffee with friends, and work.

You will respond to emergencies, attend incidents, and show calm, professional leadership in managing situations. You will work with tenant retailers, their managers, and fellow security staff to deter, detect, and intercept shoplifters, gather evidence to support prosecutions, and deter antisocial behaviour. You will do this within the law, the assignment instructions, and the retailers’ own procedures.

Job Overview

The role is split between duties in a small site control suite and in the public areas of the shopping centre, with duties alternating throughout the working day.

On the shopfloor, you will carry out proactive patrols, engage positively with tenants and their staff, enforce site rules, identify persons of interest, and confidently and lawfully challenge those suspected of shoplifting or antisocial behaviour.

In the control suite, you will monitor the CCTV system to identify potential threats early, both inside and outside the centre, and to detect safety issues and breaches of site rules. You will also manage access to the service areas and adjoining offices, answer telephone calls, and operate the fire and life safety systems.
