Overview

I am currently working with a leading owner and asset manager of passenger and freight rolling stock, committed to sustainability, innovation, and delivering long-term value to their partners and the wider community.

The company has made significant investments in facilities to test and trial new traction technologies, safely store rolling stock, and provide training in a live environment, shaping the future of the UK's railway sector.

Role Summary:

As Safety and Environment Manager, you will support the General Manager of Site and Asset Management to ensure the safe delivery of site activities through risk-based systems and assurance processes. You will foster a safety-first culture across the site.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Promote a high-performing, safe delivery culture aligned with the company's vision and values, driving continuous safety improvements.
  • Align health and safety arrangements with the company's health and safety strategy.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the site health & safety management system (H&SMS) to comply with ROGS and ISO 45001:2018 standards.
  • Maintain a site safety risk register with related risk assessments for all non-rail operations.
  • Identify training needs related to health, safety, and environment.
  • Manage safety during site events.
  • Investigate safety incidents and near misses, recommending measures to prevent recurrence and monitoring their effectiveness.
  • Conduct safety and environmental inspections and audits, both planned and unplanned.
  • Produce regular reports on health, safety, and environmental KPIs.

Requirements:

  • Nebosh General Certificate or equivalent (Essential)
  • ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015 or 45001:2018 internal auditor (Desirable)
  • Trained risk assessor (Essential)
  • Trained accident investigator (Essential)
  • Experience managing safety & environment in the rail industry
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong leadership abilities
