Job Description

United Living is recruiting an Environmental Manager to join our Major Projects team, providing environmental management services for major infrastructure projects. This site-based role will be based at our head office in Warrington and involves working on projects across the North West of England.

As Environment Manager, you will support project development, lead internal and external stakeholders in delivering and maintaining necessary environmental consents in accordance with relevant legislation.

All projects are Nationally Significant Infrastructure projects across the UK, subject to Development Consent Orders, including a Carbon Capture Pipeline in the North West.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Consents Management: Lead management of consents and approvals, managing submissions and application processes.
  2. Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on regulatory requirements, standards, and regulations to ensure compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and statutory bodies to facilitate consent delivery.
  4. Documentation and Reporting: Keep accurate records of permits and approvals, and prepare reports supporting compliance.
  5. Project Coordination: Collaborate with project teams to integrate consent requirements into plans and schedules.
  6. Team Collaboration: Share knowledge and provide guidance on environmental matters within multidisciplinary teams.
  7. Team Leadership: Lead the environmental support team, including 5 direct reports.
Qualifications

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in environmental management, permitting, or compliance within infrastructure, especially with DCO processes.
  • Project management skills, including prioritization and coordination across multiple projects.
  • Strong understanding of planning regulations, environmental legislation, or land rights related to infrastructure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Leadership qualities and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Up-to-date with professional competence developments.

Behavioral Qualities:

  • Ability to question standard approaches and manage risks creatively.
  • Support and develop teams through delegation, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Decisiveness in making business decisions with commercial implications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Additional Information
  • Highly computer literate, especially in Microsoft Office and data management.
  • Good time management; full-time role, 8 am-5 pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Office-based at Lingley Mere, Warrington, with site work as required.
