Job summary

Belmont Recruitment is seeking an experienced Rough Sleeper Support Worker to join Walsall Council on a 12‑month temporary basis. The role focuses on helping vulnerable homeless adults, former rough sleepers and individuals with complex needs to prevent repeat homelessness and promote independent living.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting vulnerable individuals in housing, homelessness, or support work.
• Knowledge of homelessness, mental health, substance misuse, and offending histories.
• Understanding of welfare rights, housing legislation and debt management.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work.

Responsibilities

• Carry out outreach to locate rough sleepers and follow up on referrals.
• Complete holistic risk and needs assessments and develop support and risk plans.
• Support service users with complex needs, including mental health and substance misuse.
• Help individuals develop life and social skills to improve independence.
• Support access to settled accommodation and tenancy maintenance.
• Provide regular support sessions and respond to crises.
• Promote safeguarding and ensure welfare of service users.
• Assist with access to services, education, training and employment.
• Assist with benefit claims to maximise income.
• Arrange and accompany service users to appointments.
• Maintain accurate records, support plans and outcome reports.
