Job summary

Carrington West is recruiting for a Rough Sleep Support Worker to provide outreach across Northamptonshire, engaging people sleeping rough and guiding them toward accommodation and services. You’ll conduct needs assessments and create tailored support plans within a frontline, collaborative setting.

This role involves complex caseloads, safeguarding responsibilities, and working outside standard hours to achieve sustainable outcomes for vulnerable individuals.

Qualifications

Rough Sleep Support Worker

Rate: £34.75 per hour Umbrella

IR35 Status: Inside IR35

Initial Contract Length: 3 months

Start Date: ASAP

Working Hours: 37 hours per week

Role summary

You will provide responsive and assertive outreach support to people sleeping rough, building trusted professional relationships and helping individuals access accommodation and the wider services they need. You will take a person-centred, strengths-based approach, working closely with housing, health, social care and other partner agencies to help prevent repeat homelessness and achieve sustainable outcomes. The role will involve working across Northamptonshire, including street outreach sessions outside normal office hours.

What you will do as a Rough Sleep Support Worker

• Deliver flexible and responsive street outreach, identifying and engaging with people sleeping rough and helping them access accommodation and appropriate support.
• Complete comprehensive risk and needs assessments, develop support plans and provide intensive, person-centred support to individuals with a range of complex needs.
• Support service users with areas including housing, physical and mental health, substance misuse, benefits, budgeting, debt and independent living skills.
• Work closely with Housing Options, Adult Social Care, health services, supported housing providers and other statutory and voluntary-sector partners.
• Manage safeguarding concerns, contribute to multi-agency case conferences and maintain accurate case management records.
• Support people moving into temporary and longer-term accommodation, helping them develop the skills required to sustain their tenancy.

What you will need as a Rough Sleep Support Worker

• Previous experience working or volunteering within housing, homelessness, care or a related support environment, supporting vulnerable individuals.
• Practical experience of assessments, support planning, key working and advocacy.
• A strong understanding of homelessness and rough sleeping, including the barriers vulnerable and socially excluded adults can face when accessing accommodation and services.
• Experience managing challenging situations and working effectively with individuals who may have complex or multiple support needs.
• Strong communication, interviewing, relationship-building and multi-agency working skills.
• The ability to manage a caseload, maintain accurate records and work independently in a demanding frontline environment.
• Knowledge of safeguarding adults and relevant housing/homelessness legislation would be advantageous.
