Job summary

Octane Recruitment Limited is seeking a Roadside Technician (field-based) to provide roadside assistance for a nationwide breakdown company. The role is based out of York with a salary package including overtime and bonus opportunities.

The successful candidate will perform rapid fault diagnosis and roadside repairs, including battery changes and minor engine fixes, with shifts across 6am–12am, 40 hours per week, and a comprehensive benefits list including pension, life cover, and progression

Qualifications

• Must hold a Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally Level 3.
• Minimum of 2 years post-qualification hands-on vehicle experience.
• Full UK driving licence with max 6 points, no bans.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs at the roadside, including battery changes and wheel changes.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.

Job description

Roadside Technician (field-based) providing roadside assistance for a national breakdown company with over 15 million members. Great salary, benefits, overtime and bonus opportunities.

Pay / salary: £36,400 OTE: OTE: In Excess of £60,000, opportunity to earn 70-80k+

Job type: Permanent / full-time role

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role

40 hours per week between 6am and 12am, Monday to Sunday. Shifts are known 12 months in advance. Flexi overtime at x1.5 and/or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home as soon as you start the van.

Job Responsibilities for the Roadside Technician role

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess vehicle faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs at the roadside, including battery replacements, wheel changes, and minor engine fixes.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isnt possible, ensuring member mobility.
• Advise members clearly on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

What youll need to be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally a Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Must have a minimum of 2 years post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles, either in a workshop or a mobile vehicle role.
