Job summary

Octane Recruitment Limited is assisting a national breakdown company in recruiting a Roadside Technician (field-based) based in Scunthorpe. Attend roadside breakdowns, assess faults quickly, and perform mechanical and electrical repairs at the roadside, using diagnostic tools to identify issues and options.

This permanent, full-time role offers 40 hours per week, overtime opportunities at £30 per hour, a salary of £36,400 with OTE in excess of £60,000, and a range of benefits including pension

Qualifications

• Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair (Level 3 preferred, City & Guilds/IMI/NVQ).
• 2+ years post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles.
• Customer-focused approach.
• Full UK driving licence (max 6 points, no bans).

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess vehicle faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical roadside repairs, including battery replacements, wheel changes, and minor engine fixes.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn't possible, ensuring member mobility.
• Advise members clearly on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

Roadside Technician (field-based) providing roadside assistance for a national breakdown company with over 15 million members. Great salary, benefits, overtime and bonus opportunities.

Pay / salary: £36,400 OTE: OTE: In Excess of £60,000, opportunity to earn 70-80k+

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role

40 hours per week between 6am and 12am, Monday to Sunday. Shifts are known 12 months in advance. Flexi and/or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home as soon as you start the van.

What you'll need to be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally a Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Must have a minimum of 2 years' post-qualification hands‑on experience with vehicles, either in a workshop or a mobile vehicle role.
• A customer‑focused approach.
• Must have a full UK driving licence – max 6 points, no bans.
