Job summary

Octane Recruitment Limited is seeking a Roadside Technician (field-based) in Stockport to join a national breakdown service. You will attend breakdowns, diagnose faults, and perform roadside repairs to get members mobile again, while providing guidance on next steps and recovery if needed.

The role offers a base salary of £36,400 with an OTE in excess of £60,000 and potential to earn £70k–£80k+. Shift work across 6am–12am, 40 hours weekly, with flexi overtime and van-based start points.

Qualifications

• Must have Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair or ideally Level 3 qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ or equivalent).
• Must have a minimum of 2 years post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles in workshop or mobile role.
• Customer-focused approach; full UK driving licence with max 6 points; no bans.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs at the roadside (battery replacements, wheel changes, minor engine fixes).
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn't possible to maintain member mobility.
• Advise members on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

providing roadside assistance for a national breakdown company with over 15 million members.

Location: Stockport

Pay / salary: £36,400 OTE: OTE: In Excess of £60,000, opportunity to earn 70-80k+

Job type: Permanent / full-time role

40 hours per week between 6am and 12am, Monday to Sunday. Shifts are known 12 months in advance. Flexi overtime at x1.5 and/or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home as soon as you start the van.
