Job summary

Octane Recruitment is seeking a Roadside Technician (Field based) in Oldham for a permanent, full-time position. You will respond to roadside incidents, perform mechanical/electrical repairs, and use diagnostic tools to keep members mobile. A Level 2/3 qualification and a valid UK driving licence are required.

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum Level 2 in light vehicle maintenance and repair; Level 3 preferred but will consider Level 2.
• Must have a minimum 2-year post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles in workshop or mobile roles.
• Customer-focused approach required.
• Must have a full UK driving licence (max 6 points, no bans).

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical roadside repairs (battery replacements, wheel changes, minor engine fixes).
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn't possible to restore mobility.
• Advise members on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role

Monday – Sunday, 40 hours per week, between 6am and 12pm (could be 9am – 5pm or 8am – 4pm etc, shifts vary). You get your rota 12 months in advance, so you can plan accordingly. All hours start and stop from home, as soon as you start the van.

What you'll need to a be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum of a Level 2 in light vehicle maintenance and repair, ideally Level 3 but will consider level 2. (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent)
• Must have a minimum 2-year post-qualification hands on experience with vehicles. Either in a workshop or mobile vehicle type role.
