Job summary

The RAC is seeking a SuperFlex Roadside Mechanic to deliver roadside assistance across the Portsmouth cluster. You’ll diagnose faults, perform repairs and keep your van stocked to get members back on the road in your local area.

The role offers a base pay of £50,669 per year with the potential to reach £57,000 through bonuses and overtime, along with full RAC van, fuel card, uniform, tools and diagnostic kit. Expect varied shifts, including early mornings and weekends.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience; or 5+ years’ experience as a technician.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.
• Ability to diagnose faults and perform roadside repairs.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and perform repairs to get members back on the road.
• Handle a variety of roadside incidents – from diagnostics to punctures and battery issues.
• Maintain your own kit, keep your van stocked, and manage reports with precision.
• Provide clear communication, support each member, and keep everyone moving.
• Exercise sound judgment in prioritising calls and deciding on the best fix.
