Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Highways Maintenance Operative for our UKCS Scotland team based in Dalston, Carlisle. The role focuses on maintaining the local highway network through repairs, drainage work and minor civil tasks in outdoor conditions.

You will support winter maintenance and emergency response, with a strong emphasis on health and safety, teamwork and customer service for the public.

Qualifications

• A valid HGV Category C licence and Driver CPC required for site operations.
• Experience in highway maintenance is essential; ability to work in a team and cover flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Complete highway repairs and general maintenance activities.
• Carry out minor civil engineering works including kerbing and drainage installation.
• Cleansing and jetting of highway drainage systems and road gullies.
• Support winter maintenance by driving an HGV gritter during winter months.
• Install and maintain traffic management systems and support emergency response.
• Complete and submit operational paperwork; participate in risk assessments and health & safety procedures.
• Contribute feedback for continuous improvement and participate in reviews.
