Overview

NeuroBehavioral Hospital in Crown Point, a member of the NeuroPsychiatric Hospital family, is looking for a Nursing Supervisor (RN) to serve our patients and hospital leadership team. The Nursing Supervisor (RN), under the direction of the DON, will help plan, direct, and evaluate total patient care and assume management responsibilities for the nursing department. Responsibilities

• Provide the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients on the unit.
• Assess the patient’s condition based upon observation and/or interview of patient, physician’s diagnosis, laboratory findings, and other pertinent information.
• Use professional judgment to prepare nursing care plans consistent with assessment of patient’s condition and physician’s treatment plans.
• Direct non-professional personnel in implementing nursing care plans, and provide guidance and demonstrate appropriate methods, as necessary, to correct deviations from established standards. Make nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees and the needs of the patients.
• Evaluate patient’s response to nursing care and modify or revise treatment plans, and/or contact physicians as circumstances require.
• Render professional nursing care including administering medications, and initiating and maintaining intravenous fluids according to hospital policy and procedures. Understand the pharmacology and recognize the side effects of medications administered. Perform lab draws and report findings to appropriate personnel.
• Perform Point of Care testing as assigned and trained, maintain competency for testing and quality control procedures. Report lab results and document in the patient chart. Collect blood samples for laboratory testing according to lab procedures.
• Perform both complex and routine treatments as prescribed by physicians or as warranted by patient’s condition.
• Make regular rounds of assigned patients independently and with physicians. Observe and evaluate patient’s symptoms, progress, and reactions to treatments and medications. Take corrective actions as indicated.
• Identify problems and guide personnel to their solutions. Communicate with other hospital departments, as necessary, to resolve operational problems and optimize hospital resources.

Qualifications

• Must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor's Degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
• Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of IN
• One year of nursing experience required.
• Prefer experience in nursing education and/or psychiatric and acute care settings, but it is not required.
