Job summary

The Methodist Church in Britain seeks an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse to lead and coordinate care during secure patient transfers, bed watches and places of safety. This role supports crisis intervention, risk assessments and clinical handovers within a 24/7 rota framework.

Based at our Birmingham bases, you will work with ambulance crews, AMHPs and healthcare professionals, ensure safeguarding and data protection, and drive high standards in a demanding but rewarding environment.

Qualifications

• Valid NMC RMN registration.
• Full UK driving licence covering manual and automatic vehicles, with 6 or fewer points.
• Minimum two years' post-registration experience.
• Enhanced DBS clearance for adults and children.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee patient care during secure transfers, hospital bed watches and places of safety, including PSS, PCC and Section 136 pathways.
• Assess patient needs, identify risks and put in place care and intervention plans.
• Provide crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation, using approved physical intervention only when necessary and proportionate.
• Carry out clinical handovers with risk assessments, patient presentation and care plans.
• Coordinate staff, allocate responsibilities and maintain professional standards.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams, ward staff, AMHPs and external healthcare professionals.
• Apply safeguarding procedures and relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act.
• Keep accurate clinical records and promptly report incidents, concerns and near misses.
• Uphold confidentiality, equality, diversity and data protection requirements.
• Drive company ambulances when required.
• Check vehicles and clinical equipment in line with company procedures, including pre-journey checks.
• Work flexibly across a 24/7 rota, attending the designated base in company uniform as required.
