Retail Store Manager

£26,259 - £30,804 plus benefits

Reports to: Area Manager

Department: Trading

Contract: 6-month fixed term

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week

Location: Southampton Portswood, Shirley, and Ferndown shops

Role overview: We’re seeking a motivating store manager to join our trading team. You’ll act as an ambassador for Cancer Research UK, motivating your team to maximize sales and fundraising targets. Your store will be a community hub where people learn about our work and see our impact.

Key responsibilities:

  • Guide, inspire, and engage a diverse team of paid staff and volunteers, including recruitment, retention, and development.
  • Take ownership of the store’s commercial operations, including display, merchandising, stock management, standards, layout, sales, and income.
  • Lead by example, providing excellent customer and supporter service.
  • Maximize profit through effective cost control and sales strategies.
  • Build relationships with the local community and colleagues.
  • Organize and run creative fundraising events to meet targets.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, security, administration, and HR policies.
  • Perform manual handling and physical activities as part of daily duties.

Candidate requirements:

  • Experience managing and inspiring a diverse team.
  • Comfort working within targets and motivating others.
  • Ability to multi-task in a lively environment.
  • Knowledge of excellent customer service.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of high street fashion retail.
  • Adaptability to changing situations and ability to work independently.
  • Awareness of pricing, value, and item worth.
  • Flexibility to work on a rota basis, balancing business needs with personal life.
