Job summary

British Red Cross is seeking a Shop Assistant in Lerwick to support a busy, customer-focused shop on a 14-hour week basis. This fixed-term contract runs for 6 months with a salary of £24,479 per annum (pro rata).

You’ll assist the shop manager, help create an inviting store, handle the till, and prepare displays while sorting stock behind the scenes. The role emphasises great customer service, a commercial mindset to hit targets, and flexible working options including remote/hybrid arrangements.

Qualifications

• Previous experience of working in a retail environment and confident with handling money
• Strong communicator who thrives on providing excellent customer service and enjoys meeting lots of different people
• Commercially minded with a grasp of hitting targets
• Able to anticipate and delight customers with the service provided

Responsibilities

• Assist the shop manager to run a customer-focused shop on the high street
• Create a brilliant shopping environment and provide an excellent customer experience in store
• Confidently work on the shop floor, be the first point of contact for customers, operate the till and create striking displays
• Sort stock and prepare items for display, behind the scenes
