Job summary

St Leonard's Hospice in York is hiring two Retail Sales Assistants on a 6‑month fixed term basis to support our Clifton Moor outlet. The role is 22.5 hours per week over 3 days, including weekends, with pro rata pay (£15,404.40 for 18+, £9,385.74 for 16–17).

You'll deliver friendly, high‑quality service, help maximise store performance, and support the eCommerce handover where appropriate. Applications from 16+ welcome; closing date 2026-09-27.

Are you looking for a retail opportunity for the next 6 months?

Due to the success at our new Clifton Moor retail outlet, we’re looking for two Retail Sales Assistants to join the team on a 6 month fixed term basis to help with the day-to-day running of the £1 clearance shop, delivering an efficient, organised and customer focussed operation to maximise income for the Hospice.

As a Retail Sales Assistant your main responsibilities will be to:

• Under the guidance of the Shop Management Team, maximise store sales and profits
• Maintain densities in the shop and identify stock to pass on to the eCommerce team
• Provide a high level of customer service to donors and customers of the shop and uphold the Hospice values and Retail Service principles

• Be an effective team player

This is a great opportunity if you’re looking for work alongside your studies or to gain some experience for your CV. Candidates don’t need to necessarily have any work experience however it is desirable and we will be able to accept applications from anyone 16 years old and above.

This is a part-time position working 22.5 hours per week, 3 days over 7, which will include weekend working, for a period of 6 months. For those aged over 18 years the salary will be £15,404.40 per annum pro rata and those aged between 16 - 17 years old it will be £9,385.74 per annum pro rata.
