Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting a Waking Night Residential Support Worker for a specialist SEND school and residential setting in the DE4 area. You will support children and young people with SEND during night hours, ensuring a safe, calm environment throughout the night.

Role requires experience with SEND and residential care, and the ability to respond calmly to challenging situations. The position includes night shifts at a Derbyshire SEND school with ongoing professional development

Waking Night Residential Support Worker - SEND School

Location: DE4, Derbyshire

Pay: £14.25 per hour

TeacherActive is recruiting experienced Waking Night Residential Support Workers to work within a specialist SEND school and residential setting in the DE4 area.

You will support children and young people with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, helping to provide a safe, calm and supportive environment throughout the night.

This is a hands‑on role where you'll need to be attentive, compassionate and confident responding to the individual needs of the young people in your care.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing waking-night support within the residential setting
• Ensuring young people remain safe and comfortable throughout the night
• Supporting individual SEND and additional care needs
• Responding calmly to challenging situations or changes in behaviour
• Following individual care and support plans
• Completing appropriate observations and records
• Supporting personal care where required
• Working closely with the wider residential and SEND team
• Maintaining safeguarding and professional standards at all times

The Successful Residential Support Worker Will Have

• Relevant experience working with children or young people with SEND
• Previous residential, care, education or support experience
• Confidence working waking-night shifts
• A patient, compassionate and resilient approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• An understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
• The ability to remain calm and responsive during challenging situations
• Reliability and a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable young people
