Job description

The CG-TIC is a new translational immunology initiative between Cambridge and GSK focused on renal and respiratory diseases. It will leverage the world-class capabilities of Cambridge and GSK, targeting diseases of high unmet medical need, with the aim of delivering impact to patients while advancing the GSK pipeline, and supporting research in Cambridge. The partnership is built around three key themes, involving the integration of patient phenotyping, understanding mechanisms of disease, and advancing oligonucleotide therapeutics.

We are seeking a motivated and self-directed Research Nurse, ideally with clinical research experience, to play a key role in identifying and recruiting patients to provide a range of samples that will underpin the work of CG-TIC. Working within the Vasculitis and Lupus clinics, the role will entail:

  • Proactive identification and recruitment of eligible study and clinical trial participants from across the renal clinics.
  • Provision of information to and support for patients and potential participants, ensuring that informed consent is obtained and that all necessary paperwork is in order.
  • Coordination of study/trial sample collection, including venepuncture, and liaising with the relevant teams to ensure timely processing and storage.
  • Data collection and entry according to recognised protocols.

The ideal candidate, who will be a Registered Nurse, will have experience in supporting clinical research, ideally with a clinical research qualification, such as in Good Clinical Practice. They will have substantial experience of working with patients and their carers within clinical areas, including experience in a relevant field within the NHS. Experience of working with patients with autoimmune disease, and particularly vasculitis and/or lupus, is desirable. Prior knowledge of how to consent patients, working with clinical and academic teams, or of human biological sample management is essential. This will be a team role, but with a degree of self-autonomy, and so an ability to work independently when required will be very useful. Excellent communication skills, organisational ability, and time management are a must.

Informal enquiries regarding this position are strongly encouraged: contact Prof. Eoin McKinney efm30@cam.ac.uk

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (enhanced with adults' barred list). This appointment also requires NMC Registration and a Research Passport application.

We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
