Job description

Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated team lead or aspiring team lead to join our General Surgical team based at the Princess Royal University Hospital. You will work closely alongside the clinical lead occupational therapist for Trauma & Orthopaedics. The service is dynamic and offers a challenging clinical environment for a confident and skilled occupational therapist.

The surgical occupational therapy team provides assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning for patients admitted to general and specialist surgical wards, including colorectal surgery, urology, gynaecology, and vascular surgery.

Multi-disciplinary working is essential within the team, and we are looking for a creative occupational therapist to influence the further development of occupational therapy, paying particular attention to continuity of care, shared decision-making, and identification of barriers to discharge and facilitating patient flow.

We value continuing professional development to ensure all staff develop skills and knowledge to reach their full potential. You will be encouraged and supported to develop your clinical and teaching skills and contribute towards in-service development.

Minimum requirements: A degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy and HCPC registration.

For more information or informal discussions, please contact Yvonne Van Rooyen, Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist at 01689 864632 or via email.

  • Provide clinical and professional leadership to a team of qualified staff and support their development.
  • Maintain high standards of autonomous working and supervision in complex assessment, treatment, and discharge planning.
  • Identify areas for service development and lead projects accordingly.
  • Lead CPD sessions through journal clubs, in-service training, and peer support.
  • Represent the team at relevant meetings and advise on service developments aligned with government policies.
