Fluor and Energy Materials, an Orbia business, is hiring a Research Chemist – Oil Compatibility to be based at Thornton Science Park, Cheshire, UK.

Main Purpose

  • The main purpose of the role is to manage and develop expertise in establishing the compatibility of Orbia’s Fluor and Energy Materials refrigerants with Lubricant Oils and Materials.

Main Responsibilities

  • Run experimental work programs for the characterization of the behavior of refrigerants and their mixtures with lubricants in the context of product applications testing
  • Ensuring experiments are carried out safely and delivering high-quality results.
  • Managing lab facilities, equipment, and supplies to meet the needs of ongoing projects, specifically those involving lubricant oil compatibility measurements.
  • Work with lubricant companies to tailor products that are suitable with Fluor and Energy Materials LFR product offerings.
  • Identifying and implementing any necessary upgrades or new equipment to enable required property measurements.
  • Overseeing and managing the documentation process for moving material samples between Fluor and Energy Materials and external facilities.
  • To document results in a professional manner and generate reports for internal as well as external use e.g. with customers or end users.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Degree in chemistry, physics, or chemical engineering.
  • Desirable: Advanced qualification (master’s or PhD).

Knowledge/ Experience Required

  • Experience working in a chemistry lab or analytical lab.
  • Laboratory experience of working with high hazard activities would be desirable.
  • Strong focus on control and management of safe experimental procedures.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
